History

MGM Grand
Source: @mgmgrand

MGM is the largest hotel in the whole of America, with over 6,800 rooms. It was the first hotel to open before Park MGM in December of 1993. The hotel was themed Wizard of OZ with memorabilia from the legendary stories and an Emerald City color on the building.

1996 brought about the complete demolition of the Wizard of Oz theme. A lot of renovation and refurbishment took place over the years with the inclusion of the MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park.

The park was meant to make the casino hotel popular with families but ended up performing poorly. It was later demolished, and the Signature at MGM Grand was constructed in its place.

Park MGM opened in 1996 as The Monte Carlo costing about $344 million to construct.

Park Theater, which is currently the most significant attraction in the hotel, was built. With 5,200-seat, the Dolby Live Theatre has brought in many visitors, including iconic figures like Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, and Classic Cher.

The hotel was rebranded from Monte Carlo in 2018 to Park MGM due to a joint venture between MGM Brand and Sydell Group.

Another change that has taken place on the premises is the abolishment of smoking in September 2020. In fact, Park MGM is the first casino resort in Las Vegas that does not permit any form of smoking. Hopefully, others will follow in due time.
